Snow Removal

Recently (Jan 12th 2011 was the first time), BWHA hired Joshua Clark (216-5905) & two teen helpers to clear ice and snow off the steeper roads in Botany Woods. He also will do driveways on an individual basis, so feel free to call him. So far we have had favorable reports from residents who noticed that the work was done. He lives off Lower Grassy Branch Rd a little north of Botany Woods, on Wolf Rd.

Thank You

Board member Charles Bunner went out with heavy duty equipment in hand & cleaned up the visibility problem at the Botany Dr - Lower Grassy intersection (looking toward Tunnel Rd). We all thank him for this. He also picked up some trash and moved several dead trees that fell from the area. From now on, it should be easier just to go with the weed eater every now and then to keep it down.

Also, it was resident Mickey Gamble of Riverbend who told us about Joshua Clark (216-5905)for snow removal. Joshua used to live on Riverbend.

Dogs often escape yards, so be sure your dog has tag in case a friendly neighbor finds your dog running around. Leash laws are the rule in public areas in Buncombe County. Dogs & people have been bitten by unleashed dogs in our neighborhood.

"SURVEY RE TELEPHONE, TV AND INTERNET SERVICE IN BOTANY WOODS by Linda Brown

I wonder if any of our neighbors are receiving (1) internet, (2) TV, and/or (3) telephone services from any company OTHER THAN Charter. Or if any of you have tried other providers while you've lived here. If so, what was/is your experience? If you will call me at 505-1238, or email me at melindafar@aol.com, I will summarize your responses (anonymously) and put them in the next issue of Botany Bulletin. "

OTHER LOCAL NEWS

Swannanoa River Pollution: Worst seems downstream from us

This winter we had a great group of volunteers that braved the cold to take water samples from the Swannanoa River and its many tributaries. They took about 40 samples from Black Mountain to the French Broad River. We took those samples back to our office and incubated them to see if there was any e-coli contamination. Fifteen of the sites that were sampled registered some e-coli and two registered significant levels of e-coli pollution. Those two sites were the stream that flows from behind Lowes on Swannanoa River Road and the tributary that flows down by Highland Brewery and into the Swannanoa at the municipal golf course on Swannanoa River Road. More sampling dates planned for Jan. 13 and 20. We will let you know when we hear the results.

Recycle That Oil

Turn your cooking oil into biodiesel.
You're welcome to drop off containers of cooking oil at our loading dock in the back of the Phil Mechanic Studios just down the dirt road from the Wedge Brewery accessed from the 5-way stop of Lyman, Roberts, and Depot streets. We're here M-F 9-5 if you'd like to meet a staff member and get a
tour. After-hours drop offs are ok, too.
